Welcome to the Mendip Hills AONB

This is one of England’s most special places – the limestone Mendip Hills with the lakes of the Chew Valley are a stunning landscape of steep slopes and undulating plateau punctuated by spectacular gorges and rocky outcrops. On the hilltops there are hundreds of ancient monuments, whilst on steeper slopes flower rich grasslands and wooded combes offer varied habitats for a wide variety of wildlife.

In recognition of its special qualities the area has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). One of 46 AONBs in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and a member of the National Association of AONBs, these protected landscapes are managed through local Partnerships on behalf of the nation.

You may prefer to BBQ outdoors to help keep your kitchen cool on a hot summer days, or perhaps you simply enjoy being out in the middle of the action where you can cook and socialize all while keeping an eye on the kids or even looking out for the plentiful local wildlife surrounding us.

What time is check-in & check-out?

You can check-in from 4pm and check-out is 10am.

What's included in my stay? (Towels, Wood & more, etc)

We provide all the bedding and towels for the property. A dry larder (tea, coffee & sundries) are provided together with the first basket of logs for the stove.

We will provide you with your first basket of logs for the fire, which is included within your stay.

Do you have an electric vehicle charging spot?

If you own a ‘Granny’ cable or 3-pin electric charging cable, you’ll be able to charge your vehicle on-site as a standard 3-pin outdoor electric socket is located nearby. If your cable is not long enough, we can supply a small extension cable to help.

All that we ask is you contact us prior to booking, to ensure we can accommodate your car charging request.

The nearest fast charging point is just over 5 miles away from Tor View Shepherds Huts, at Morrisons Supermarket in Wells (postcode BA5 1UA).

Is there a minimum stay?

Our minimum stay is 3 nights. We offer the flexibility to check-in on any day of the week.

What is the price guide?

Pricing starts from £360 for a 3 night mid-week stay (February – May). Excludes Xmas and New Year.

The area boasts some wonderful pubs and restaurants, as well as interesting places to buy locally produced cider and cheese. Bring a healthy thirst and appetite!

We’ve written a list of a few of our local pubs where we have eaten as a family. We have included those which we have tried at some time or another, but of course there are lots more in the area locally – we can’t get around them all! Please ask us for our recommendations.

There is plenty to keep the avid adventurer occupied within the area.
From shopping in Bristol to discovering Wookey Holes cave network, there’s a little of everything just around the corner.

The Small Print

Basically, there isn’t any.

The prices shown include everything. Honest. There are no hidden fees, surcharges or surprises.

All utilities (water, electric, central heating and unlimited wireless broadband) are included – no meters with slots.

We will provide you with your first basket of logs for the fire, which is included within your stay.

So the price you see here is the price you pay.

Also included in the price is our friendly, helpful nature and advice on where to go – what to see – where to eat – should you want suggestions.

As a guide it should not exceed a maximum of 25 kilos in weight and 70 cm in height. A fee for the dog to stay must have been paid for at the time of your booking. Prohibited Breeds of dogs are not permitted this list maybe updated without prior notice and may not be limited to: Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, XL Bully.

Your dog must be properly controlled and supervised at all times onsite, during your stay.
The patio area is not escape-proof for your dog. Your dog must not be left unattended inside or outside. Make sure your dog isn’t a danger or nuisance to any farm animals or wildlife, and your dog cannot run loose or out of control here at any time during your stay.

We therefore advise owners to use your own basket and dog blanket. Please clean up after your dog. Absolutely no dog on or in the bed or any furniture. Your own permitted dog area and dedicated exercise walking route. We have provided the following facilities at your disposal to enhance your stay for you and your dog.

Inside the accommodation we have provided:

  • Dedicated dog towel
  • Dedicated dog mat
  • Dog bowls

Outside the accommodation we have provided:

  • Dedicated dog waste bin
  • Dog waste bag dispenser
  • Hose pipe – cold water, with adjustable spray gun to shower your dog if required
  • Dog chain anchor point

We had a most enjoyable and relaxing time. We were able to visit the city of Wells and Stonehenge and go on a nice walk. Managed to BBQ two evenings where we looked out on the beautiful view. We had a great stay.
